About this role

SumUp is looking for a Senior Database DevOps Engineer to join our team in Sofia. In this role, you will develop and maintain the Cloud Platform infrastructure related to databases that serves as the foundation for our development teams. You will play a critical part in ensuring the availability, performance, and security of our databases by implementing automation and improving infrastructure code quality.

We are looking for an expert who can help us shift database ownership "left" safely through standardized automation and deep-level guardrails. You will collaborate closely with Platform Infrastructure and Development teams to lower costs, improve self-service tooling, and actively participate in audits related to our database infrastructure.

About the team

The DBOps team sits within SumUp's Platform tribe and is responsible for the database infrastructure that underpins payment and financial products used by over 4 million businesses worldwide. The team is at a pivotal moment: migrating 80+ legacy databases to Aurora PostgreSQL, building deep-level guardrails, and shifting database ownership closer to the development teams who rely on it daily. This role is central to that work, bringing platform engineering discipline, automation-first thinking, and database expertise to a function where the impact is felt across the entire engineering organisation.
