About this role

Are you motivated to develop advanced laser additive manufacturing processes, contribute to impactful research projects, and strengthen collaboration between research and industry? LUT University is seeking a project researcher for the Flexible and Cost-Effective Directed Deposition Method (JOUKoDED) project.

What your work will be like

The JOUKoDED project is conducted at LUT University’s Laboratory of Laser Processing and Additive Manufacturing. The project promotes the adoption of metal additive manufacturing by providing a cost-effective and openly documented laser-directed energy deposition (Laser DED) solution and demonstration environment. It supports SMEs in their decision-making and reduces initial investment needs. At the same time, the project strengthens regional security of supply and resilience by enabling the repair, remanufacturing, and local production of metal components and spare parts. The project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

As a project researcher, you will be responsible for device testing and process development. Your tasks include participating in the reporting of results, contributing to scientific publications, and supporting other experts in building a new laser DED system in the LUT laboratory.

LUT has extensive experience in laser‑based manufacturing processes, and this role offers an excellent opportunity to increase your expertise in laser equipment, optics, process control, and laser process monitoring.

What we expect from you

You should have an M.Sc. degree in a relevant field, such as mechanical engineering, manufacturing technology, laser processing, or additive manufacturing.  In this role, you will work with laser-based technologies in a laboratory environment, conducting experiments and analysing experimental results. You will also have the opportunity to learn about and apply new technologies.

You will organise and coordinate experiments and related technical tasks, ensuring accurate results. You
