Join our team as a Financial General Ledger Accounting Intern and gain hands-on experience supporting the accounting processes behind millions of transactions processed by SumUp. Our Finance team plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and transparency of our financial data as we continue to scale globally.

As part of the Financial General Ledger (FGL) team, you will support reconciliation processes, financial analysis, and accounting operations while learning from experienced professionals in a fast-paced international environment.

Responsibilities

  • This is a 6-month paid internship based in Sofia, ideally full-time (8 hours per day / 40 hours per week), with the possibility of extension based on performance and business needs.
  • During the internship, you will gain exposure to financial reconciliations, accounting systems, and high-volume payment environments while supporting the team during key accounting cycles such as month-end close.
  • What You’ll Do
  • Support the preparation of account reconciliations, including receivables and settlement accounts
  • Assist in reviewing transaction data and payment settlements from external partners such as banks and payment processors
  • Help investigate differences between system records and financial data
  • Assist with chargeback and refund tracking and support reconciliation processes
  • Prepare Excel analyses and reports to support accounting reviews
  • Support documentation of accounting processes and reconciliations
  • Collaborate with team members to help improve data accuracy and reporting
  • Assist with month-end closing activities and reconciliation tracking
  • Support process improvement and automation initiatives where possible
  • You’d Be Great for This Role If You:
  • Are a 3rd or 4th year student in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field
  • Have a basic understanding of financial statements (Balance Sheet and P&L)
  • Have good knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Are fluent in English (written and spoken)
  • Have strong attention to detail and analytical thinking
  • Are curious and eager to learn about financial systems and payment operations
  • Can work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks
  • Are proactive, responsible, and a strong team player
