At IQM, we build world-leading quantum computers for the well-being of humankind. We design systems to tackle computational challenges beyond the practical limits of classical machines. Our work sits at the edge of science and engineering. It's complex, demanding, and deeply collaborative. We turn deep research into reliable, full-stack systems that drive discoveries in fields like medicine, energy, and technology, reshaping how the world computes.

The work
We are looking for a QEC Calibration Engineer to join our team in Munich, Germany, or Espoo, Finland, focusing on developing and improving quantum operations required for quantum error correction (QEC).
In this role, you will work on calibration, benchmarking, and optimization of quantum processors to enable fault-tolerant quantum computing. You will implement and execute QEC experiments, analyze system performance, and contribute to the development of control software and calibration strategies aligned with IQM's QEC roadmap.
This is a hands-on role at the intersection of quantum hardware, calibration, and software, where your work will directly impact the performance and scalability of IQM's quantum systems.
What you'll actually do Improve QPU calibration methods for QEC applications
Develop quantum operations such as readout, reset, leakage reduction
Implement, execute, and analyze QEC benchmark and demonstration experiments
Contribute to the development of quantum control software and calibration workflows
Identify and define technology-stack requirements for QEC
Analyze experimental data and report results to stakeholders
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Gates, Calibration & Benchmarking, software, and QPU design
Support knowledge sharing and mentoring of team members and interns
