Senior Backend Engineer, Membership (Payments)

We are now looking for Senior Backend Engineer, Membership (Payments) to join our amazing team. </span></p><h2><strong>This is the role</strong></h2><p><span>You'll join Membership, the cross-functional team that owns the subscriber lifecycle, and own the backend behind how listeners pay for Podimo. This code handles real money: when it breaks, people get charged twice or lose access to what they paid for.</span></p><p><span>How we build: engineers on the big features, agents on everything else. A crew of small, single-purpose agents is taking over the upkeep (dependency upgrades, flaky tests, alert triage, low-risk bugs), so your time goes to the hard problems: payment architecture, new markets and payment methods, and the features listeners notice. You decide what gets built and how, and you own what you ship.</span></p><p><br><span><strong id="docs-internal-guid-4e29fe6e-7fff-ae44-dc9b-c681516392aa">Your main responsibilities</strong></span></p><ul><li><p><span>Own payment plans, offers, subscriptions, gift cards, and promo codes across web payments (Adyen, Vipps/MobilePay) and in-app purchases (Apple, Google Play)</span></p></li><li><p><span>Keep money flows correct and observable: idempotency, webhooks, store notifications</span></p></li><li><p><span>Lead epics of cross-team features and technical initiatives</span></p></li><li><p><span>Build the APIs our Android, iOS, and Web apps use for paywalls, checkout, and account management</span></p></li><li><p><span>Build the guardrails agents work inside: architecture, tests, automated checks, and the context they run on</span></p></li></ul><p><span><strong id="docs-internal-guid-4e29fe6e-7fff-ae44-dc9b-c681516392aa">Our stack: </strong>Kotlin, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL,TypeScript, MySQL, Pub/Sub, GraphQL, and Kubernetes on Google Cloud, with AI coding agents every day.</span></p><p><span><strong id="docs-internal-guid-4e29fe6e-7fff-ae44-dc9b-c681516392aa">How you'll grow: </strong>You'll shape how a payments team works with agents, from the guardrails to the workflows other teams reuse. The path continues to staff and lead roles, where engineers set standards, build agent workflows, and coach the team.</span></p><h2><strong>This is you</strong></h2><ul><li><p><span>You've built and run backend services in production. We work in Kotlin and TypeScript, but your judgment matters more to us than any single language</span></p></li><li><p><span>You read code and architecture quickly and can judge what's right and what will break, whether a person or an agent wrote it</span></p></li><li><p><span>You know where distributed systems fail: retries, race conditions, idempotency, and partial failures</span></p></li><li><p><span>You work with AI agents daily: you write clear specs, review their output critically, and know when to take the keyboard back</span></p></li><li><p><span>You communicate like an owner, in clear English</span></p></li></ul><p><span><strong id="docs-internal-guid-9253c29a-7fff-1c2c-0a3c-be3d35a621bc">Big plus: </strong>payments experience, such as payment providers, app store billing, subscriptions.
