We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher for a two-year position in Helsinki, Finland to develop novel satellite-based methods for investigating the spatial and temporal variability of secondary aerosol formation in the RCF-funded LUMOS project.
Your work will focus on developing advanced methods to analyze and integrate large satellite datasets of aerosol precursor gases, UV radiation and aerosols, with the aim of deriving new observational information on the spatial and temporal variability of secondary aerosol formation. The work may involve machine-learning and other data-fusion approaches to exploit complementary information from multiple satellite instruments and in situ observations. Your tasks will also include developing new satellite-based products and identifying specific atmospheric and chemical events and emerging trends. The research will contribute to several international projects within our unit and support the exploitation of observations from newly launched and upcoming satellite instruments.
You will work closely with experts from FMI's Remote Sensing Research Unit and researchers from the University of Helsinki as part of the LUMOS consortium, while also engaging in broader national and international collaboration. The position includes publishing scientific articles and presenting research results at conferences, workshops, and seminars.
You will work the Atmospheric Remote Sensing group, a team of 18 researchers. The group is part of the Earth Observation Unit, which consists of approximately 40 experts and researchers. The unit conducts research in Earth observation, with a particular focus on atmospheric composition, air quality and greenhouse gases, the Earth's surface, and the cryosphere. Our research combines satellite observations with ground-based and other complementary measurements.
