About this role

AlfaWall Oceanbird AB is a 50/50 joint venture, owned by Alfa Laval and Wallenius but operated as an independent company. Our strong mother companies provide valuable insights in shipping and industrial production and enable us to have a long-term perspective.

By harnessing wind - a constant and free energy source - we contribute to a more sustainable shipping industry. The wind helped us discover our planet - now it can help us preserve it!

Responsibilities

  • We are looking for an experienced Structural Engineer to join our Innovation team and help develop Oceanbird's next generation of wind-powered propulsion systems for commercial vessels.
  • In this role, you will be responsible for the structural integrity and design of large, complex structures, from early concepts through detailed design and verification. You will combine engineering fundamentals and hand calculations with advanced finite element analysis to understand structural behaviour, identify critical design drivers, and develop robust and cost-efficient solutions. Your structural expertise will directly influence how our products are designed, manufactured, tested, and operated.
  • The role is highly hands-on but also requires a strong system-level perspective. You will need to understand not only how an individual component behaves, but how the complete product functions and interacts with its operational environment.
  • Perform structural calculations ranging from hand calculations and analytical methods to advanced FEA.
  • Develop, assess, and document structural designs from concept through detailed design, testing, and verification in close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across mechanical, automation control, electrical, supply chain and quality, and customer projects.
  • Take a system-level approach to understanding loads, boundary conditions, interfaces, operational environments, and failure modes.
  • Prepare and peer-review structural calculation reports and documentatio
