Doctoral Researchers

Are you interested in shaping the future of the built environment through research? LUT University is recruiting seven doctoral researchers to join LUT Civil Engineering team. New department will be established by the end of the year. The positions focus on sustainable buildings, building services, energy systems, thermal technologies, AI infrastructure, and the construction and real estate sectors, offering an opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree while contributing to research with societal impact.

Civil Engineering is a new and growing part of the LUT School of Energy Systems, focusing on technology-driven growth, business transformation and infrastructure resilience.  As the team continues to develop, doctoral researchers have a unique opportunity to contribute to shaping its research activities and academic community from the beginning.

What your work will be like

The available positions cover a range of research topics within civil engineering and the sustainable built environment.

The Construction Business positions focus on the green and digital twin transition in the real estate and construction sector, covering topics such as life cycle assessment and management of built assets, national building stock inventory and scenarios, and business model innovation in real estate and construction.

The Building Services position focuses on reducing real-life building energy use while improving occupant satisfaction, safety, wellbeing, and process efficiency through research on building usage and on-demand ventilation control in buildings and industrial processes.

The Building Energy Systems and Thermal Technologies positions focus on future building energy systems and emerging technologies, including advanced thermal management and heat transfer technologies, AI infrastructure and building energy systems, and occupant-centric building energy systems and smart heating control.
