Doctoral researcher in social sciences

Are you interested in the politics of the green transition? LUT University's Department of Social Sciences is seeking a doctoral researcher to join the GREENSHUFFLE project funded by the Research Council of Finland. This fully funded, four-year doctoral researcher position examines the political consequences of unequal occupational recognition during the green transition using a mixed-methods research design.

What your work will be like

In this position, you will examine how society values different occupations during the green transition — that is, occupational recognition — and whether such recognition contributes to political divisions in attitudes towards the green transition. Through your research, you will be expected to contribute to ongoing debates on the politics of the green transition and on broader political behaviour in advanced democracies.

Your work will centre on completing an article-based doctoral dissertation in English within four years. At LUT University, such dissertations typically consist of three articles. You will also contribute to the Research Council of Finland-funded GREENSHUFFLE project by carrying out both research and project administration tasks.

Key research tasks include:

conducting and analysing individual-level interviews in Finnish in nine municipalities in South Karelia, Finland;

co-designing and analysing an original individual-level survey to be fielded in Finland;

contributing to international scientific publications and policy briefs;

presenting findings at conferences and team meetings.

Project administration duties include maintaining the project’s public presence, such as its website, mailing lists, and social media channels, and organising outreach events.

The role will also involve teaching in bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes at the Department of Social Sciences. You will work within the Social Sustainability and Welfare Policies research group and collaborate with colleagues at the department working on
