Autoliv is the worldwide leader in automotive safety systems. We develop, manufacture and market protective solutions such as airbags, seatbelts, and steering wheels for all major automotive manufacturers worldwide, along with advanced safety solutions for new mobility. In 2025, our products helped save approximately 40,000 lives and prevented around 600,000 serious injuries. Driven by our mission to save lives, we are now expanding our organization by building a new team within Electrical Safety. To support this growth, we are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer – HVDC/MVDC to join our team and contribute to the next generation of electrical safety solutions.
About the Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be part of a team developing advanced switchgear solutions that protect other critical equipment within electrical power systems. These systems include energy transmission stations, converter stations, energy storage systems, and more, both for medium- and high-voltage requirements.
A key part of our technology is our pyrotechnic switching solution, enabling extremely fast opening and closing of electrical circuits to protect equipment, infrastructure, and people.
In this role, you will take ownership of mechanical design activities throughout the product development process, from concept generation and detailed design to testing, industrialization, and continuous improvement.
Your Responsibilities
You will:
Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for safety-critical products
Create and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D technical drawings using CATIA
Perform engineering calculations and technical analyses related to mechanics, thermal performance, and structural integrity
Support product verification, testing, and validation activities
Drive design-for-manufacturing and cost-efficient design solutions in collaboration with production teams
Conduct and document Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (FMEA)
