About this role

Company

NestAI is a European AI lab for defence delivering the adaptive operating system for modern battlefield operations. We develop adaptive intelligence for unmanned and command systems: AI that continuously learns from operational data and adapts to changing conditions.

NestOS is our open, modular, and interoperable platform that enables this at scale and keeps capability evolution under sovereign European control. Founded in 2025 by Peter Sarlin, whose previous company Silo AI became Europe's largest AI acquisition, NestAI brings together over 200 engineers and scientists and partners with leading European defence forces and industry.

Role Description

We are looking for a Group Controller to build and own the financial backbone powering NestAI's international expansion. As we launch new subsidiaries across Europe, starting with Sweden, this role takes complete operational ownership of statutory accounting, tax compliance, and multi-entity group consolidation.

In this role, you will build the scalable finance engine that keeps pace with our hyper-growth trajectory: standing up consolidation processes for new legal entities, ensuring local books are compliant from day one, and maximizing automation across our Light Inc. ERP stack. This is a hands-on position that spans from high-level transfer pricing strategy down to submitting bills through the AP approval flow — we need someone who values both strategic compliance and tactical accuracy, switching between them naturally.

What you will own:

Group Consolidation & Reporting: Establish and manage monthly, quarterly, and annual group consolidation processes across all international subsidiaries.

Statutory Compliance & Transfer Pricing: Own the accuracy of local statutory books under Finnish Accounting Standards (FAS) and local international GAAPs; design, document, and execute transfer pricing, intercompany billing, cross-border VAT, and corporate tax filings.

Accounts Payable Process Ownership: Own the end-to-end AP workflow in Light Inc. ERP (bill entry, coding, approval flows), collaborating with our Accountant on day-to-day processing while retaining total workflow integrity.

Systems, Automation & Controls: Act as the finance champion for the Light Inc. ERP stack, working with accounting partners to eliminate manual workflows. Implement robust internal controls across procurement, travel expenses (Bezala), and payroll systems.

Audit Readiness & Governance: Serve as the primary contact for Big 4 external auditors, ensuring clean audit trails (including R&D capitalization under FAS) and establishing financial process KPIs (close cycle times, reconciliation accuracy).

Note: This role focuses on controlling, statutory compliance, and financial operations. FP&A, strategic fundraising, commercial deal structuring, and general HR/payroll administration are managed by parallel functions.

Qualifications

Deep experience (equivalent to 5+ years) of accounting/controlling experience, ideally in high-growth tech or defence/industrial sectors.

Hands-on experience with multi-entity group consolidation, statutory reporting across multiple jurisdictions, solid knowledge of Finnish Accounting Standards (FAS), and practical understanding of transfer pricing principles.

Proven experience as the primary interface for external auditors (such as EY, PWC, Deloitte or KPMG) and strong familiarity with modern, cloud-native ERPs.

Flawless professional communication in English with a hands-on, self-directed mindset that thrives in ambiguity and values end-to-end process ownership.

Pluses: Prior experience setting up new legal entities from scratch in European markets, exposure to multi-element revenue recognition (SaaS, royalty, government contracts), ISO-certified or defence sector compliance, and a proactive approach to using AI/automation tools to accelerate finance workflows.

&
