We are looking for a Chemist that will be titled Senior Expert / Expert, Fuels with a main responsibility in the Fuel Laboratory. The location for this position is Vaasa, Finland.

Your role and responsibilities

As a Senior Expert / Expert, Fuels you will provide expert chemical competence to support Wärtsilä's fuel related technology development, engine testing, customer projects and fuel specification work as well as support on troubleshooting challenges. The role ensures high quality laboratory analysis, development of new analytical methods and expert interpretation of results for conventional, bio based and emerging sustainable fuels. The position supports Wärtsilä's strategic targets related to decarbonisation, fuel flexibility and reliable engine operation.

Requirements for the position : M.Sc. in Chemistry or related field

Strong laboratory experience of instrumental analysis in a chemistry laboratory

Fluent English communication skills, Swedish and/or Finnish a strong benefit

Ability to work independently and take ownership

Willingness to perform hands-on laboratory work when required

Qualifications/to be able to succeed in the position we expect you to have:

A Team player with good collaboration skills in cross-functional teams

See working in a Chemistry Lab as a "dream work" were to work & develop long term

Experience with advanced analytical instruments (e.g. IC, XRF, GC, ICP-OES, FTIR, TGA/DSC)

Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills

Structured way of working and ability to interpret data, reporting and support technical decisions

Interest in method development and continuous improvement

Experience in fuel analysis or petrochemicals and knowledge of alternative fuels (e.g. ammonia, hydrogen, methanol) is seen as an advantage
