🧑🏻💻 About the role
First things first: you want to know what you’re actually applying for. It’s impossible to capture every nuance of a role – especially at a rapidly growing company like Mews – but if we had to distill it down to a job description (which we do because this is a job description), it would be this:
Long Stays are one of the fastest-growing segments in hospitality. The guests are different, the economics are different, the operational model is different – and the software most hotels use to run them was built for none of it. This role exists to change that.
As Director of Product and Engineering, Long Stays, you will own this segment end-to-end: the strategy, the product, the technical direction and the outcomes. You will lead a small team of product builders while building yourself – writing specs, making product calls, contributing directly to what ships. Reporting to the VP of Product and Engineering, you are the single accountable owner for Long Stays as a product capability within Mews.
This is not a role for someone who wants to manage at arm's length. The team is lean by design. The expectation is that you are in the work – discovering problems, setting direction, reviewing code and copy, shipping things. You will use AI agents and internal tooling to extend what the team can do, and you will raise the ceiling on what that looks like as you go.
Your success will be measured against a blend of commercial and product metrics – ARR growth, embedded payments revenue, and product north star metrics we will define together. You own both the quality of what ships and the outcomes it drives.
What you will own
The Long Stays product vision, strategy and roadmap – across hybrid hospitality operators, student accommodation, aparthotels, coliving and adjacent segments – with direct accountability for ARR growth and product north star metrics.
The full resident lifecycle as a product capability: booking and lead-to-lease (monthly booking engine, tenant screening, contracting, guest verification and document collection); move-in and onboarding; billing and payments (recurring billing automation, SEPA and BACS direct debit, deposit lifecycle, invoice delivery, index-linked rent increases); revenue management and hybrid inventory yield; and the tenant self-service portal.
Embedded payments revenue as a shared commercial outcome – working closely with the Fintech division to ensure we deliver the best fintech products for this segment and drive them to adoption.
Technical direction for the tribe: architecture decisions, engineering standards, system health. You are the senior technical voice here as well as the product voice.
A small team of product builders – setting their context, developing their craft and ensuring they can operate as full teams of 1 on their sub-metrics.
Hiring into the tribe as it grows, with full accountability for calibration and performance.
The tribe's relationship with the rest of the organisation – aligning with other tribes on shared infrastructure, coordinating dependencies and representing Long Stays in leadership forums.
How you will work
You will contribute individually on the highest-leverage problems, not just direct others toward them.
You will use AI agents, internal skills and automation as the default way to cover disciplines and speed up delivery – not as an occasional productivity boost.
You will build the tribe's context repository: the research, decision logs, domain models and tooling that let builders pick up any problem without a human handoff.
You will define the sub-metrics each builder owns and ensure they have what they need to ship against them independently.
You will set the craft bar – for product thinking, for engineering quality, for how the team communicates decisions.
