Doctoral Researcher (Data analysis, Scientific Computing, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biophysics, Network Biology, Statistics, or related fields) / Väitöskirjatutkija
Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences create a unique environment for multidisciplinary, inspirational and high-impact research and education. Our university community has its competitive edges in technology, health and society. www.tuni.fi/en.
The Laboratory of Biosystems Dynamics (LBD) of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology of Tampere University is looking for a Doctoral Researcher.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Bacterial infections are a worldwide problem, and new therapeutic strategies are urgently needed. This multidisciplinary project will apply data analysis, scientific computing, and modelling to study complex biological datasets and dissect how bacterial gene networks respond to antibiotics. From there, we will identify vulnerabilities that, in the future, can be exploited to reduce antibiotic tolerance and resistance.
We are looking for a Doctoral Researcher with a background in data analysis, scientific computing, bioinformatics, computational biology, biophysics, network biology, statistics, or related fields.
You will analyse genome-wide RNA-seq data and single-cell data from novel synthetic reporter genes generated by other members of the group (produced in house, Figure 1, left), along with data generated by your own realistic models (Figure 1, right), to dissect bacterial antibiotic responses and the regulatory mechanisms controlling them.
Figure 1: You will analyze data and use models to learn how bacterial gene networks increase antibiotic adaptability. Our laboratory is producing the experimental data that will be analyzed.
RESEARCH ENVIRONMENT
The Laboratory of Biosystem Dynamics is an international and interdisciplinary research group at Tampere University, with 18 years of experience in original research. We aim to answer original scienti
