OsloCompetitiveFull time0 applicants

About this role

Are you motivated by a role where your analytical skills and commercial mindset go hand in hand?

AIG is looking for an Underwriter to join our Nordic Accident & Health (A&H) team in Oslo. Norway is a key market in our Nordic cluster, and we see massive potential for further growth. We need you to help us capture it.

In this role, you take ownership of your own portfolio of commercial clients, ranging from SME to large multinational corporations. You will build direct relationships with Norwegian insurance brokers and work closely with our local Distribution colleagues to ensure AIG remains the preferred partner.

What’s in it for you?

At AIG, you get

the best of both worlds

: a strong, agile local presence in Oslo combined with the endless resources and backing of a global insurance leader. We lean heavily into a 'Learn-It-All' culture, meaning we invest in your talent and provide the framework for you to grow into a true specialist.

Here is what you can expect:

Ownership & Growth:

You will take ownership of your own portfolio, giving you the autonomy to build broker relationships while learning from senior colleagues on complex accounts.

One Nordic:

Join a welcoming team in our Oslo office, while being a fully integrated member of a 30-person Nordic unit that prioritizes knowledge sharing and shared success.

Norwegian Benefits:

Enjoy a competitive compensation package, including a bonus plan, occupational pension, comprehensive travel and health insurance, and a wellness allowance – plus extra vacation days to ensure you have time to recharge.

Oslo Office:

Our modern and bright office in the center of Oslo (top floor of Vika Atrium next to Aker Brygge) offers a gym, indoor bicycle facilities, and a great in-house restaurant.

Your impact and responsibilities

Your role is a mix of independent portfolio management and collaborative underwriting on larger deals.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Underwriting & Risk Assessment:

Evaluating risks, setting terms for renewals, and pricing new business.

Broker Relationships:

Acting as a key contact point for brokers in the Norwegian market, ensuring AIG is top-of-mind when they place business.

Commercial Execution:

Helping to grow our pipeline by identifying opportunities and delivering quick, commercially sound solutions.

Stakeholder Management:

Navigating a global environment with internal and external stakeholders, managing deadlines, and ensuring a customer-first approach.

Problem Solving:

Taking independent ownership of underwriting challenges and resolving them professionally.

What you’ll need to succeed

This role requires professional maturity and the ability to drive your own portfolio. We do not expect you to be a fully-fledged A&H expert from day one, but we expect you to have the professional foundation to navigate tasks independently and proactively.

You bring experience from the insurance industry or the broader financial sector. A&H experience is a plus, but not a requirement – we will teach you the technical specifics.

You see yourself as being structured, analytical, and taking pride in delivering quality work.

You possess a commercial mindset and understand that underwriting is also about excellent service and long-term relationships.

You are a team player who is comfortable working independently, yet you always know when to ask for sparring.

Fluency in Norwegian and English (written and spoken) is an absolute requirement, as you will handle local contracts and global guidelines.

Meet the Team

In AIG Nordics, we are approximately 200 colleagues with offices in Stockholm, Copenhagen, Helsinki, and Oslo. You will report to the Nordic A&H Underwriting Manager. The Nordic A&H team consists of 30 professionals focusing on Group and Individual A&H. We prioritize collaboration, strategic alignment, and shared success, working closely with Distribution, Underwriting Support, Multinational, and Claims to deliver the best solutions for our clients.
