Responsibilities

  • The Aviation Senior Technologist will provide Aviation Product Quality Assurance from the point of manufacture through to aircraft wing tip, ensuring the correct grade of aviation fuel is delivered safely, on-specification and free of contamination, in line with aviation industry standards and requirements.  The role also supports the transition to sustainable aviation fuels helping to deliver the Aviation net zero strategy.
  • Accountabilities will include:
  • Main regional point of contact and technical advisor for internal & external activity regarding all Aviation fuel quality and specification matters. This includes Jet Fuel, Aviation Gasoline and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
  • Lead and/or support incident management activities and subsequent root cause analysis to address quality incidents and capture lessons learned. This support will require flexibility and out of hours activity for urgent issues.
  • Responsible for ensuring that product quality related policies, standards & procedures as set by external industry and internal airbp product quality staff, are correctly implemented and followed by our Supply, Trading and Shipping (S&TS) teams, refineries, terminals and airport operations in the region.
  • Help customers and other stakeholders deliver product quality related projects.
  • Provide Quality assurance, through periodic monitoring plan assessments including inspections of supply locations, laboratories, and operational sites to verify conformance with standards and procedures, performance reporting and root cause analysis.
  • Liaise with bp Refineries, 3rd Party Refineries, pipelines, shipping, supply, and logistic groups to coordinate and implement aviation fuel quality initiatives and fuel specification changes.
  • Development and maintenance of PQ training materials, providing PQ training to relevant bp business units and or 3rd parties as required.
  • Participate and contribute to the Product Quality Network (PQN) to discuss PQ issues, share lessons learned and coordinate implementation of new initiatives across R&AFT and Customers & Products (C&P) Aviation.
  • Management of regional PQ incident database entries, review of PQ incident trends, providing trends & emerging risk data to relevant internal PQ forums.
  • Supporting Aviation PQ Technical Service Agreements (TSA’s) where required.

Fuels & Low Carbon Technology (F&LCT) are a team of over 300 technologists, scientists and engineers who provide pioneering solutions to support bp’s Fuels, Refining, Bioenergy and Hydrogen businesses. We also support the Technology group through Innovation Management, Modelling, Digital Science and our academic research programs.  The Refining and Advanced Fuels Technology (R&AFT) who form part of the F&LCT consists of over 120 people who work closely with business groups to assure the quality of our fuels along the whole of the Fuels Supply Chain - from our Refineries and 3rd party suppliers to our Customers and Products businesses. We also develop differentiated fuels products for retail customers and deploy these into global markets. The range of fuel products is evolving as part of the energy transition, with a growing number of bio-based fuel offers. The R&AFT team also run technical programs to understand and mitigate the risk of processing bio-based feedstocks in our refinery assets, to produce a variety of renewable fuels. The opportunity: We are delighted to present this opportunity within Global Aviation & Quality Assurance (GAQA) for the position of Aviation Product Quality Senior Technologist . This role will report to the Aviation Quality Manager alongside a team that are covering North Central West Europe (NCWE) & South Europe Middle East India & Africa (SEMEIA). The successful candidate will be responsible for Aviation fuel Product Quality (PQ), from conventional Aviation fuels through to low carbon renewable Aviation fuel for the Nordics Region. You will be qualified to a degree level in Science or Engineering, preferably Chemistry or Process/Chemical engineering. Subject matter expertise in relation to the petroleum fuels industry or a related field in the aviation industry is advantageous.  Knowledge and application of, petroleum fuels manufacture, distribution and use in engines, laboratory testing and test methods and fuel quality assurance/control and specifications. You will be a skilled communicator, have an empathetic engagement style, ability to influence, collaborate and implement change.  Strong problem-solving capability and aptitude to respond and react under pressure.  A robust bias for action.  Experience of writing technical documentation.  Exceptional organisational skills and experience of working with agile frameworks will be an advantage. This role provides exposure to Technology, Customer & Products (C&P), Production & Operations (P&O) and Supply, Trading & Shipping (ST&S), providing the opportunity to create new networks, exposure to renewable fuels and support bp safety leadership principles through product quality compliance. Required skills: Experience in quality assurance or quality control. Strong organizational, time management and problem-solving skills Ability to achieve alignment and collaborate in a cross functional and cross-level environment. Strong interpersonal, networking and influencing skills. The role supports regional Military contracts therefore a Norwegian and English speaker is required. Desirable criteria: Background in the aviation business and aviation fuels Solid understanding of product development and manufacture and distribution Root cause investigational methods Experience of auditing to a recognized industry standard Proficient with a range of digital tools including Power BI, PowerApps.
