About this role

Life. Unlimited.

At Smith+Nephew we design and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living.

As Senior Director of Financial Reporting, you will play a pivotal role at the heart of our global finance organisation. This is a senior leadership opportunity to shape how we report, govern and communicate financial performance to our Executive Committee, investors and regulators, while leading a high performing team in a complex, listed environment.

What will you be doing?

You will lead the Group Financial Reporting function, owning the end to end delivery of internal management reporting and external statutory and regulatory reporting. Working closely with senior finance leaders and the Group CFO, you will guide the production of monthly ExCo reporting, oversee quarterly and annual market disclosures, and ensure our consolidated accounts meet the highest standards of accuracy, governance and control.

Alongside technical leadership, you will develop and inspire your team, strengthen internal controls and SOX compliance, partner with auditors and the Audit Committee, and provide trusted expertise on complex accounting matters including acquisitions and restructurings. This is a role with real influence across the business, combining strategic oversight with hands on leadership.

What will you need to be successful?

Success in this role comes from combining deep technical expertise with strong leadership presence and commercial judgement. You will be comfortable operating at CFO and Audit Committee level, bringing clarity to complex accounting topics and driving high quality outcomes.

Key requirements include:

Significant post qualification experience in a large listed group, ideally with a Big 4 audit background, and strong knowledge of IFRS and US FPI reporting

Proven leadership experience, with the ability to build, develop and motivate high performing finance teams

Deep understanding of SOX, internal controls and group financial close processes

A confident, credible communicator who can influence senior stakeholders and explain technical matters to non finance audiences
