About this role

As the TA Medical Lead you will be accountable for the strategic direction, medical business and resource planning of the therapeutic area (TA). You will direct and support this function to assure operational effectiveness, efficiencies through a continuous improvement approach and ensures optimal use of medical resources to support our portfolio. You will also lead the further development of a customer facing medical organization.

Job Responsibilities:

Support the implementation of the overall  strategy for the TA in a cross functional model.

Provide strong leadership in managing the team including Medical Managers, Medical Advisors, field-based Team.

Develop the team including but not limited to performance management, talent management, training and career development.

Responsible for therapeutic area insights within the TA and ensure high scientific knowledge in the team.

Responsible for supervising the TA Medical Affair’s activities, ensuring operational excellence.

Responsible for establishing strong working interfaces between the Medical Affairs team and other functions including commercial, market access and evidence generation

Responsible for establishing strong working interfaces between Medical Affairs team and other key AZ functions including GMA, GMD, Regional TA Medical Group.

Provides scientific expertise within the TA to other functions in AZ.

Closely collaborates with Study Delivery teams in supporting key phase 1-3 studies

Collaborate with GMA, GMD, Regional TA Medical Group and other key stakeholders on relevant projects and activities.

Create and manage budget and allocation of Medical resources according to the overall strategy.

Responsible for driving the establishment of a network of external medical experts within the TA to supplement internal medical resources.

Engage with key external stakeholders.

Drive high level of ethics, quality and integrity complying with all relevant standards, regulations and legislation.

Assures tasks are of correct quality and in accordance with written procedures and current legal requirements and internal standards.

Typical Accountabilities:

Leading the further development of a customer facing medical organization.

Ensuring the team’s and individuals’ level of competence being right as well as their compliance to current legal requirements and internal standards.

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Master degree in medicine, pharmacy, dentistry or natural sciences

Thorough knowledge and experience within the pharmaceutical industry including the Medical Affairs function, health care systems and payer structures

Minimum 5 years or experience in Medical Affairs

Excellent knowledge in English language

Experience in management and leadership skills including performance appraisal

Experience of financial management, budget handling and financial control

Possesses business-oriented thinking, and can apply this without compromising the scientific elements of the work

Proven ability to understand, assimilate and communicate scientific information

Ability to build strong professional relationships internally and externally
