The University of Helsinki International trainee programme is open to all international students enrolled in a University of Helsinki master's programme.
We are looking for a TRAINEE for Caring labour: A multi-modal study of migrant workers' care practices and mobilities project funded by Kone Foundation (2025-2027).
The duration of a traineeship is from 1 September 2026 to 31 December 2026 (four months) of part-time (55%) work, leaving time for studies as well. The salary of a trainee is €852 per month for a part-time (55%) trainee.
About the position
As a trainee you will be working in the discipline of Sociology with Professor Lena Näre and doctoral researcher Matias Muuronen. We conduct research on migrants who are currently working in Finland and who have a family back home. As a trainee your duties include assisting the researchers in recruiting research participants and conducting qualitative research interviews (individual, focus-group and object-led interviews). Your duties also include writing summaries of state-of-the-art existing research and assisting with other publication-related matters.
The person we are looking for
We are looking for a person who has experience or demonstrates strong interest in qualitative research methods (interviews and/or ethnographic methods), excellent communication skills, command of English language. We consider as an asset if you command of at least one of the languages relevant to our research focus, such as Arabic, Farsi/Dari, Somali, Tagalog or Ukrainian, as well as interest in migration studies. This position requires high sensitivity towards people in precarious situations. We are offering this position for a person who has not yet worked as a trainee at the University of Helsinki.
