Job Description:
What’s the role
The Senior Power Trader plays a key role in the EU Power and Certs Trading Desk, as a senior power trader across the CWE markets.
The EU Power Trading team itself, part of Shell Energy Europe & Africa’s (SE-EA) European Power Trading team, is responsible for the proprietary trading, and the management of a growing portfolio comprising customer demand, renewable, batteries and thermal generation. The team manages exposures down the curve through to delivery.
What you’ll be doing
Main opportunity, challenges and responsibilities:
Construct trading strategies, take positions and manage exposures from both traded strategies and across the asset portfolio based on analysis of fundamental, weather and technical market conditions across multiple markets
Ability to spot distortions between geographies, tenors, and generation type.
Understand and communicate risks being taken
Supporting the development of the desk’s capabilities, portfolio and fundamental model
Working with external (and internal) customers alongside business development to bring in new structures to the book, or deal types to help optimise existing exposures.
Staying on top of the latest regulatory and market developments
Observe and strictly comply with all regulatory guidelines, and within mandated authorities.
Coach & educate junior colleagues.
What you bring
We are keen to hear from experienced trading professionals and likely to be a strong contender if you have hands on experience in the following:
Significant years in power curve trading experience, with focus on the European Markets (especially Germany and Netherlands), with a proven track record
Established network with other market participants and industry players
Deep understanding of physical power markets, ideally with previous experience in managing assets (thermal and renewable)
Strong grasp of market and weather fundamentals, and willingness to work with the fundamental team to drive model development
