University intern

The Finnish Institute of International Affairs is seeking three (3) university interns for summer 2026 to work as research assistants. We are looking for students interested in foreign policy to support the Institute's work.

Job description

The positions will be filled for the period from 1 June to 31 August 2026.

The first research assistant will work in the Institute's European Union and Strategic Competition research programme and assist with its research projects. Interest in the EU and EU related research should be evident in the applicant's studies. The second research assistant will work in the Finland and Northern European Security research programme. Interest in Finland's foreign policy, defence and security policy, NATO, and research on these topics should be evident in the applicant's studies. The third research assistant will work in the Global Security and Governance research programme. Interest in research on environmental policy or U.S. foreign or domestic policy should be evident in the applicant's studies. Applicants must specify in their application which position they are applying for.

The duration of the internship is three months. The internship requires internship funding. The application must indicate that the applicant has been granted internship funding or is eligible for it. The funding does not need to cover all costs incurred by the Institute due to the internship.
