Job description
The Greenhouse Gases Coordination Group studies the global distribution of greenhouse gases using satellite observations, develops advanced methods for data interpretation and source-sink estimation, evaluates the reliability of satellite observations and is responsible for the satellite validation measurements at FMI Arctic Space Centre in Sodankylä.
The scientific software engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and supporting scientific datasets and software across multiple research projects. Your tasks will includes:
Processing, organizing, and managing large scientific datasets
Developing, improving, and maintaining analysis and processing codes
Documenting and distributing tools and software for research use
Supporting shared research software infrastructure
Promoting good software development practices in a research environment
Close collaboration with researchers and international partners
Our expectations of the applicant
You must hold a relevant Master's degree (or equivalent) in a field such as: computer science, physics, mathematics, environmental sciences, data science, or another relevant discipline. In addition, we expect:
At least two years of professional experience in software development, data processing, or similar tasks
Strong programming skills (e.g. Python or similar)
Experience in handling large datasets
Experience with version control systems (e.g. Git) and collaborative development platforms
Good command of English
Considered an advantage

Experience in working in research environments
Experience in computational or data infrastructure
Finnish language skills
