BA Markets is now looking for the right person to very exciting and challenging position as Asset Optimisation Manager/Software Engineer to strengthen our Hamburg-based team. In this hybrid role, you will combine strong software engineering skills with a deep interest in asset optimisation and operational decision-making. You will help design, build, and continuously improve digital optimisation solutions that support the short-term planning of Vattenfall’s energy assets – including hydro, batteries, wind, and solar – across Continental Europe. As Asset Optimisation Manager/Software Engineer  you have the following key responsibilities: You will be part of the regular operational short term optimisation shift, for about 50% of your time, where you will be responsible for bidding our power production into the energy markets, developing commercial strategies and using models to optimize the value of our power production You will also be part of an agile team that develops micro services for the optimisation tool landscape You will maintain and improve the optimisation tools as part of the agile team Act as a bridge between technical development and asset optimisation, ensuring that optimisation logic, constraints, and business requirements are correctly reflected in software solutions.

Required experience and competencies: You hold a relevant quantitative university degree (e.g. Engineering, Science, Economics, computer science) You are a quick learner with a structured mindset, keeping good judgement while working with tight deadlines Willingness to take part in operational shift work, incl. weekends, is a prerequisite Strong analytical mindset and interest in optimisation, asset performance, and operational decision support You are working equally well in a team as well as on your own Hands on experience in software development using Java (17) or Kotlin, preferably with modern backend frameworks such as Spring Boot Practical experience with JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks for building user-facing optimisation tools or dashboards. First experiences with event-driven architectures, streaming platforms (e.g. Kafka), cloud technologies, and Kubernetes is an advantage.
