About this role

We are looking for a researcher for the projects of Natural Resources Institute Finland where fungi are utilized in a novel manner in order to promote biodiversity. The position is fixed-term between 1.6.-31.12.2026.

Job description

We are looking for a researcher for projects relating to fungi. Work includes fungal cultivations in the laboratory, field work, data collection as well as statistical analyses and reporting. The aim of the projects is to develop a new method to control the growth and spread of alien invasive plant species based on the use of a fungal species, and to collect data on the dispersal of the spores of threatened wood-inhabiting fungi. A researcher will be supervised by Principal Scientist Leena Hamberg. Work includes cooperation with Finnish and Swedish collaborators.

Our expectations of the applicant

a doctoral degree in a relevant field, e.g., biology or forestry

ability to do field work

competence in fungal ecology, fungal cultivations in the laboratory and fungal spore collection

skills in statistics

fluent written and spoken English skills

We consider previous experience in data handling, statistical modelling and the statistical programme R as an advantage.

Applicant must have a driver's license (B).
