About the opportunity: We’re looking for an Engineering Manager (freelancer) to lead a backend team responsible for building and maintaining core platform services used across multiple products and markets. You’ll manage a team of 6-10 backend engineers, working closely with Product, QA, DevOps, and Architecture to ensure reliable, scalable solutions and smooth day-to-day collaboration. This role combines people leadership and technical responsibility, with a focus on team development, engineering quality, and long-term platform stability. You’ll have a real opportunity to influence how the team works and how the platform evolves. What you’ll be doing: Lead and mentor a team of 6-10 backend engineers Support team growth, motivation, and day-to-day collaboration Define and evolve backend architecture and engineering standards Drive delivery of platform initiatives (quality, timelines, priorities) Ensure reliability, SLAs, API contracts, and service quality Remove blockers and create an environment for engineers to perform at their best Collaborate with Product Owners, QA, DevOps, and Architects Improve CI/CD, automation, and engineering practices Communicate progress, risks, and decisions to stakeholders Support adoption of modern tools, including AI-assisted development Here’s a set of skills we require: 5+ years of backend development experience (Java or JVM-based) 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams Strong background in
