PROFESSOR OR ASSISTANT / ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN RESTORATION ECOLOGY
The successful applicant may be appointed to assistant/associate professorship (tenure track) (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/university/careers-at-the-university-of-helsinki/tenure-track-at-the-university-of-helsinki), or a full professorship depending on the applicant's qualifications and career stage.
We are seeking an ecologist with expertise in urban ecosystems and their restoration or rehabilitation. Relevant research themes include, but are not limited to, urban ecology, bioremediation, landscape design, or restoration practices. Suitable backgrounds for the position include, for example, experience with methodologies to assess the ecological/socio-environmental outcomes of environmental restoration, drawing from a potentially broad range of theoretical foundations, or in-the-field experimentation. Interest and experience of investigating ecosystem-based approaches to tackling broad environmental challenges is also an advantage.
This position will be part of the Diversity in Society and Life (DIVSOL) multi Faculty action led by the Faculty of Arts, with the participation of the Faculties of Biological and Environmental Sciences, Education, Law, Theology, Social Sciences, Science, the Swedish School of Social Science, and the Helsinki Institute for Social Sciences and Humanities. It aims to develop a leading European hub for transdisciplinary research on ethnic, cultural, linguistic, religious and socio-ecological diversity. As a result, the position includes working in and leading multi- and transdisciplinary working groups investigating topics like loss of diversity and how it poses a threat to ecological integrity and function or how the benefits of urban biodiversity vary for different urban populations, including immigrants, minorities, religious groups, and individuals from lower socio-economic
