ABOUT THE TEAM The Payroll team is building payroll software that's genuinely easy to use, a rarity in this space. We operate with startup speed and autonomy, scaling our product to Tide's 1.6 million members while tackling the complexity of UK payroll compliance. Our architecture is designed for composability: discrete packages (dividends, tax, employees) that can evolve into standalone services as we scale. Key challenges ahead: Internationalizing our UK-centric product (HMRC, tax calculations) for multi-country support. Scaling to Tide's full customer base. Maintaining product velocity while ensuring reliability. This role suits product engineers, people who care about what they build, not just how. ABOUT THE ROLE Own services end-to-end: you design it, you build it, you run it Ship across the stack (if you want), frontend, other services, wherever the problem lives Deploy to production from week one (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, EKS) Shape our internationalization architecture as we expand beyond the UK Design and build payroll modules (tax calculations, dividends, employee management) in Go 1.25 with PostgreSQL and Redis Work directly with Product on user needs and HMRC compliance Contribute to a 200+ service ecosystem using SNS+SQS Use DataDog for observability; RESTful APIs with generated TypeScript types for frontend integration
