🧑🏻‍💻 About the role

First things first: you want to know what you’re actually applying for. It’s impossible to capture every nuance of a role – especially at a rapidly growing company like Mews – but if we had to distill it down to a job description (which we do because this is a job description), it would be this:

Mews runs on systems and processes built across Finance, HR, IT, Legal, and Operations — a 1,400-person company whose internal functions are supported by tooling that has not kept pace with the scale of the business. Headcount alone cannot absorb the growing operational complexity of a pre-IPO, multi-market SaaS company. This role exists to change that.

The Internal AI Builder is a high-agency senior individual contributor who owns the design, development, and continuous improvement of AI-powered tooling and automation across internal business functions. The scope spans Finance (FP&A, accounting, procurement), HR and People Operations, IT & Security, Legal, and any internal team where automation can replace manual effort, reduce cycle time, or unlock capacity. This is a builder role with end-to-end ownership: from identifying problems with stakeholders, through shipping production solutions, to measuring and iterating on outcomes.

At IC5 level, this role operates with significant autonomy, sets technical direction for internal AI tooling across the company, and actively raises the capability of the engineers and operations staff around them.

✅ Your mission, should you choose to accept it:

Own end-to-end delivery of AI and automation initiatives across Finance, HR, IT, Legal, and Operations, from stakeholder problem definition and scoping through production release and measurable impact, operating without dedicated product management or design support.

Identify, prioritise, and build the highest-leverage automation opportunities across internal functions: examples include financial close automation, employee self-service workflows, IT access provisioning and offboarding pipelines, contract review assistance, and policy Q&A agents.

Design and ship AI-powered systems that replace manual internal processes, including document processing pipelines, approval automation, data extraction and reporting, HR workflow orchestration, and compliance evidence collection for SOC2, ISO and similar frameworks.

Engage directly with functional leaders (Finance, HR, IT, Legal) and their operational teams to identify build priorities, translate operational pain into technical scope, and maintain alignment on delivery cadence and outcome metrics.

Build rapidly and iterate based on real feedback: prototype in days, ship to production in weeks, and establish a pattern of continuous improvement rather than polished one-time releases.

Make pragmatic use of AI development tools, LLM APIs (Claude, OpenAI), and cloud-native integrations, solving problems at scale without reinventing infrastructure that already exists across the Microsoft 365, Workday, and Atlassian ecosystems.

Establish reusable patterns, services, and frameworks that give internal functions self-serve automation capability and reduce future build time on adjacent problems.

Set technical direction for internal AI tooling, make and document architecture decisions, and champion AI-native practices through code review, pairing, and direct coaching of engineers and operations staff who want to build more effectively.

Define and communicate technical decisions in clear, non-technical terms to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, maintaining alignment and influencing investment priorities across the business.

🤝️ You’ll be a great fit if you bring a few of the below with you:

Seven or more years delivering production software with measurable business outcomes in a product-driven company; experience in a high-growth SaaS or scale-up environment strongly preferred.

Demonstrated ability to operate at senior IC level without dedicated product managers or designers — independently defines scope, navigates ambiguity, makes architecture trade-offs, and owns delivery and outcomes end-to-end.

Hands-on experience building integrations against enterprise SaaS APIs across HR, Finance, or IT platforms (Workday, Microsoft 365, Atlassian, or equivalent), including workflow automation, event-driven logic, and document processing.

Fluency with LLM APIs and production AI workflows: demonstrated experience shipping agents, document processing pipelines, Q&A systems, or AI-assisted automation in a real operational context, not prototypes.

Track record of leading complex, cross-functional automation initiatives with direct operational impact; prior experience working closely with Finance, HR, or IT functions is a meaningful advantage.

Active practitioner of modern AI development tools including Claude, Lovable, Cursor, or equivalent; familiarity with agent frameworks, MCP integrations, RAG pipelines, and workflow automation tooling.

Ability to think at systems level: understands how internal processes connect across the business, the compliance and security implications of automation in sensitive functions, and designs tooling that is robust, auditable, and safe.

Familiarity with compliance and governance requirements (PCI DSS, SOC2, ISO27001, GDPR, or equivalent) as they apply to automated systems handling financial, HR, or identity data is a strong plus.

Clear, direct communicator: translates operational problems into technical requirements and explains technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders and senior leadership with equal confidence.
