We invite applications for a fully funded PhD position for three years focusing on the planetary design of service systems. For design to develop and remain relevant, it is essential to acknowledge planetary and life-centred needs that challenge not only design but also service production and delivery, and consumption as a whole. The role of service designers has traditionally been to advocate for human-centredness, usability, accessibility, functionality and logic in service delivery. The doctoral research investigates the transformation that is needed when the scope of service systems design is shifted into a planetary approach. The place of work is at the Faculty of Art and Design of the University of Lapland where the candidate will be based full-time during the employment relationship.
Research activities in the Design and Services RC support the University of Lapland's strategic spearhead in research. The service design research group conducts research and develops new tools, methods, models and practical solutions for service delivery and co-development. The research leverages the state-of-the-art design workshop facilities at the Faculty of Art and Design, especially the service design lab SINCO.
