The Performance Accountant supports the delivery of financial and operational performance insight across the SPEN business, with a focus on the SPPS directorates. Working closely with colleagues and stakeholders across high-impact areas, the role contributes to providing critical insight and challenge to ensure performance is accurately understood, effectively communicated and aligned with business objectives. This includes delivering high quality analysis and commentary to support key submissions and inform senior level decision making.

Reporting to the SPPS Performance manager, the role provides essential analytical and reporting support during a transformative period of growth under the RIIO-T3 and RIIO-ED3 price controls and beyond. The Performance Accountant plays an important role in supporting accurate financial insight and enabling effective decision‑making across the business.

What

you’ll

be doing

In this role, you will support the Performance Manager with the full budgeting, forecasting and performance‑reporting cycle across SPPS directorates, ensuring processes are robust, insightful and enable well‑informed decision‑making. You will provide value‑adding analysis to the SPEN Reporting Team, ensuring all key metrics are delivered on time and tailored for senior leadership. You will also play a key role in governance for project lifecycle management, maintaining accurate SAP master data and ensuring financial reporting integrity from project initiation through to closure.

You will work collaboratively with colleagues across Business Performance, Control and other business teams to develop efficient reporting processes, strengthen governance and ensure alignment across directorates. This includes monitoring and challenging financial and non‑financial performance, fostering strong cross‑functional relationships, and supporting both the Performance Manager and wider team as required. You will also contribute to Group and Board reporting, clearly articulating insights for your areas of responsibility.

Additionally, you will help drive continuous improvement by challenging existing processes and shaping new ways of working across emerging SPPS areas. You will promote a positive team environment, ensure compliance with Group policies and maintain a strong internal control framework. Through documentation, review and ongoing optimisation of procedures, you will help enhance efficiency, accuracy and strategic alignment across the business.

What

you’ll

bring

Fully qualified accountant

Strong analytical and accounting skills with a high degree of precision and accuracy

Previous experience of working with complex financial processes and preparing accurate reporting

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to maintain effective working relationships at all levels of Control

Understanding and experience of relevant IT applications / systems SAP, Excel & Access
