At the Institute of Biomedicine, our scientific focus is on the fundamental understanding of the body's cells – what they consist of, how they function and interact, how their function is controlled by the genome and how they interact with different types of microorganisms. With the help of such knowledge, we try to clarify the causes of various disease states and find new possibilities for diagnosis and treatment. Subject area description

The subject refers to research at the molecular and cellular level into the processes that determine the function of the body, both in normal conditions and in disease. Experimental medical science includes, for example, work with biochemical, cell biological and molecular biological techniques to study various aspects of infection biology, cancer biology, immunology, genetics, and pathology.
