đŸ§‘đŸ»â€đŸ’» About the role

First things first: you want to know what you’re actually applying for. It’s impossible to capture every nuance of a role – especially at a rapidly growing company like Mews – but if we had to distill it down to a job description (which we do because this is a job description), it would be this:

We’re expanding our fintech capabilities to help hotels manage complex payment flows, multi‑currency operations, and finance processes more efficiently. As Finance Director in the Fintech team, you own the integrity of the numbers, the strength of the controls, and the clarity of the story behind how money moves through our products. This is a build-it-right-from-day-one role in a complex environment: most execution sits in central Finance, Treasury, Product, Ops, and external partners – but accountability sits with you.

This is a career defining opportunity for a senior finance leader who enjoys influencing without direct authority, turning messy, cross‑border flows into clean, auditable processes, and acting as the pragmatic voice of control in a high‑growth tech company.

✅ Your mission, should you choose to accept it:

Own the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow for our fintech activities, even when work is executed by group teams or vendors.

Review and sign‑off month‑end and year‑end closes, challenging judgements, estimates, and reconciliations (banks, partners, customer funds, operational accounts).

Design, approve, and maintain finance processes, policies, and controls around payment flows, customer-related funds, intercompany charges, and tax.

Oversee management reporting and forecasts (KPIs, dashboards, cash and liquidity views) and provide clear, board‑ready narratives on performance and risk.

Partner with Risk & Compliance to ensure finance processes align with governance, funds protection, outsourcing, and operational resilience expectations.

Act as primary finance counterpart to banks, acquirers, auditors, and key external partners, coordinating audits and independent reviews.

Provide direction and oversight to any dedicated fintech finance roles and relevant group finance team members.

đŸ€ïž You’ll be a great fit if you bring a few of the below with you:

Based in the Netherlands

8+ years’ experience in finance, controllership, or FP&A with strong exposure to payments, fintech, or financial services.

Proven entity‑level or business‑line accountability, including oversight of shared services or outsourced providers.

Deep comfort operating in a matrix, getting things done through central finance, treasury, product, ops, and third parties rather than a large direct team.

Strong grasp of the European payments / financial services environment (e.g. customer funds protection, banking/partner relationships, financial reporting expectations).

Track record of reviewing and challenging reconciliations, controls, and financial information — not just producing them.

Recognised accounting qualification (RA, CPA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent) or equivalent experience.

Excellent communication skills: able to turn complex, messy data into clear, executive‑ready messages and push back when controls or data aren’t ready.
