About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior PHP & Java Developer to join our engineering team in Helsinki. The role involves working on business-critical backend systems built using both PHP and Java technologies. You will play a key role in system architecture, development, modernization initiatives, and technical mentoring.
This position suits a senior engineer who is comfortable working across multiple backend technologies in a complex, scalable environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain backend applications using PHP and Java
Work with modern PHP frameworks such as Laravel or Symfony
Develop and maintain Java-based services using Spring / Spring Boot
Design, build, and maintain RESTful APIs and backend integrations
Contribute to system architecture, performance optimization, and scalability
Optimize databases and comDplex queries (MySQL/PostgreSQL)
Collaborate closely with Product, Frontend, QA, and DevOps teams
Lead code reviews and ensure adherence to best coding practices
Mentor junior and mid-level developers
Support production deployments, troubleshooting, and system monitoring
Required Skills & Qualifications8-10 years of backend development experience
Strong hands-on experience with PHP and modern PHP frameworks
Strong experience in Java, including Spring/Spring Boot
Solid understanding of OOP, SOLID principles, MVC, and design patterns
Experience building API-driven and service-based architectures
Strong database skills: MySQL / PostgreSQL
Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile/Scrum methodologies
Good understanding of application security, auth
