About this role

Messy spend management is tricky business. And tedious processes are a lose-lose situation for all involved, not just finance. At Pleo, we're changing that. We build spend solutions that make managing money seamless, empowering, and surprisingly effective for finance teams and employees alike—with a vision to help all businesses ‘go beyond’.

The word ‘Pleo’ actually means ‘more than you’d expect’, and living by that mantra has been the secret to our success over the last 10 years.

Now, we’re at a pivotal moment in our journey; every move we make has a direct impact on our 40,000+ customers, our business, and our collective success. We need people who take pride in uncovering customer needs, who turn complex problems into simple solutions, challenge the way things are done (respectfully), and always aim high. With great ambitions driving us forward, we can’t say we’ve got this whole thing figured out. And frankly, that’s half the fun! What we can say is that we’re a driven, progressive, and, importantly, a kind bunch of 850+ people from over 100 nationalities, all committed to delivering the future of business spending, together.

About The Role

We are seeking a Director of Enterprise Engineering to lead the teams responsible for building and operating the internal technology foundations that power how our company works. This leader will oversee our internal engineering capabilities across identity and access, enterprise security engineering, commercial systems (eg Hubspot, Clay, etc), people systems (eg HiBob), finance systems (eg Netsuite), business system integrations, internal tools, and employee technical operations (TechOps).

You will drive a vision for world-class internal platforms that increase productivity, strengthen security, reduce operational friction, and scale with the company’s growth. This role blends engineering leadership, systems thinking, enterprise architecture, and deep partnership with Security, Product, Finance, People, and GTM teams.

This is a high-impact role at the intersection of technology, operations, and security, ensuring our internal environment matches the quality and resilience we expect in our customer-facing products.

This role reports directly to the CTO.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute a multi-year strategy for Enterprise Engineering, aligned with the company’s stakeholders, security, compliance, and scalability goals
  • Drive an “internal product mindset”—treating employees as users and delivering high-quality internal experiences
  • Lead the development of internal applications, portals, and workflow automation that support GTM, Finance, People, Risk, Support, and Operations teams
  • Drive integrations across key business systems (CRM, BI, billing, payment rails, HRIS, ERP, etc.)
  • Reduce manual operational effort through automation, workflow orchestration, and enterprise integration platforms
  • Take us from our current great tech stack to a best-in-class stack in terms of overall cost, rapid growth enablement and process innovation, improving our profitability through efficiency (incl democratization of AI)
  • Lead on our enterprise architecture helping to connect our third party solutions to our internal data platform and (where appropriate) our product platform
  • Collaborate closely with Security, Compliance, and Risk teams to ensure regulatory compliance (SOC2, ISO27001, GDPR, PCI, DORA, EBA)
  • Lead Pleo through a maturation journey, as we head towards a potential IPO, especially with regards to provisioning, onboarding and offboarding
  • Scan the horizon, identifying emerging technologies and evaluating partnerships to drive growth

Requirements

  • Ability to translate between business needs and technical requirements, and excel at stakeholder management and partnering across the company
  • Strong knowledge of best practices and what good look likes for an organization of our size and scale
  • Experience in balancing trade offs when selecting, procuring, implementing and running technical off-the-shelf solutions
  • Comfortable taking a mostly “buy”-focused approach, focusing the software engineering capacity of the team on integrating solutions together well and favouring configuration, rather than over-customising
  • In-depth knowledge of application infrastructure, technical operations including vendor management, and enterprise architecture
  • Experience from high-pace environments and enjoy complex problem-solving with peers and team
  • Experience in leading and coaching teams
  • As a plus: experience in integrating generativeAI tools into workflows and improving efficiency with AI
  • Show me the benefits
  • Your own Pleo card (no more out-of-pocket spending!)
  • Lunch is on us for your work days - enjoy catered meals or receive a lunch allowance based on your local office 🍜
  • Comprehensive private healthcare - depending on your location, coverage options include Vitality, Alan or Médis
  • We offer 25 days of holiday + your public holidays
  • For our Team, we offer both hybrid and fully remote working options
  • Option to purchase 5 additional days of holiday through a salary sacrifice
  • We use MyndUp to give our employees access to free mental health and well-being support with great success so far ❤️‍🩹
  • Paid parental leave - we want to make sure that we're supportive of families and help you feel that you don't have to compromise your family due to work 👶
