Responsibilities

  • Strategy & Planning
  • Defining and driving the strategic direction of the MSL function worldwide.
  • Leading the oversight of MSL-related digital infrastructure, including the CRM medical module and the MSL performance dashboard,
  • Establishing of robust MSL planning architecture ; including activity calendars, standardised templates, and streamlined planning processes, that enables MSL teams globally to operate with consistency, focus and agility.
  • Collaboration & Partnerships
  • Operating as a highly visible cross-functional leader and the primary organisational voice of the global MSL community.
  • Working in close partnership with Global, Regional and Local Medical Directors to ensure the successful design and execution of MSL activities that deliver on brand and medical priorities.
  • Beyond Medical, cultivating effective working relationships across a broad range of functions
  • Optimising the strategic, operational, compliance and financial management of the MSL function.
  • Leadership & Organisational Development
  • Providing strategic and operational leadership to the global MSL organisation, ensuring a high-quality, expert medical presence across all therapeutic areas and geographies.
  • Setting the standard for scientific and professional excellence across the MSL community, with the ultimate goal of driving better outcomes for patients.
  • The role carries significant responsibility for the indirect management and development of MSL teams globally.
  • This includes challenging and refining the structure and ways of working of local MSL organisations in the context of both local operational realities and participation in Global Medical Affairs and R&D clinical studies.

  • Upholding the highest standards of ethical conduct and regulatory compliance across all MSL activities.

Requirements

  • :
  • MD, PhD or PharmD with a strong grounding in clinical medicine or life sciences
  • Good understanding of GCP, statistics and clinical trial design
  • Extensive experience of pharmaceutical industry in Medical, with a preference for significant time in Field Medical
  • Strong working knowledge of the MSL
  • managerial role and the broader Medical function
  • International or global experience in an MSL leadership capacity
  • Exposure to multi-cultural or international working environments
  • Proven leadership and management skills with a genuine commitment to mentoring and talent development
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in cross-functional matrix teams
  • Proven ability to collaborate and partner successfully with commercial organisations
  • Fluency in English required; additional languages an advantage

About the Role: The Global Head of Field Medical is a senior strategic leadership role responsible for building, shaping and continuously elevating Ipsen's Medical Science Liaison function as a world-class, globally integrated field medical force. Providing the vision, direction and operational backbone that enables MSLs to perform at their highest potential, acting as trusted scientific partners to healthcare professional s and Thought Leaders across Ipsen's core therapeutic areas of Oncology, Rare Diseases and Neuroscience. Central to this role is the establishment of a unified global MSL operating model that drives consistency in standards, capabilities and scientific engagement quality across all geographies, while preserving the flexibility needed to respond to local medical environments. The Global Head of Field Medical serves as the primary architect of MSL excellence, translating Ipsen's medical strategy into field execution, championing the voice of the MSL community at the highest levels of the organisation, and ensuring that the approximately 120-strong global field medical force is strategically deployed, compliantly operating, and continuously developing to meet the evolving needs of the medical community and Ipsen's portfolio.
