3D PRINTING OPERATIONS ENGINEER AT THE AALTO UNIVERSITY DESIGN FACTORY
Your Role and Goals We are seeking a skilled and proactive Operations Engineer to our 3D printing and laser cutting workshop and its student coaching and teaching activities at Aalto Design Factory. This expert role requires strong hands-on fabrication skills, deep knowledge of manufacturing technologies, and enthusiasm for guiding others in prototyping and design for manufacturability. You will run the Design Factory Printshop, supporting and training students and staff, managing day-to-day activities, and developing services, tools, and materials to meet community needs. Maintaining safe, functional, and inspiring working conditions is a central responsibility.
Aalto Design Factory (ADF) is now looking for an Operations Engineer for our Design Factory PrintShop and related prototyping facilities for a fulltime 2-year fixed-term contract.
Key Responsibilities Student-facing support and coaching for the broad student community who use and need the Printshop support for prototyping their course work, theses and other project
Operate and maintain 3D printers and laser cutters, oversee related tools, and ensure workshop services run smoothly.
Act as the senior staff member for the Printshop, coordinating and training staff (including Teaching Assistants), and advising the broader Aalto community in prototyping and manufacturing methods.
Provide expert guidance in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), helping users troubleshoot file preparation, printer settings, and post-processing of finished parts.
