We are seeking a motivated Network Engineer to join our Data Center Operations and Network team. In this role, you will support the operation and improvement of our network and infrastructure, which includes Palo Alto firewalls and Linux-based servers/switches (Cumulus). Foundational proficiency in Linux and familiarity with Ansible are important for success. As a junior engineer, you will collaborate closely with senior team members, learn established processes, assist with implementation tasks, and contribute to initiatives that enhance reliability and performance. The ideal candidate is curious, collaborative, and eager to grow, with solid problem-solving and communication skills.

What you'll be doing
Assist in administering our network, performing routine updates and patches under guidance to ensure performance and security.
Help develop and follow procedures for network troubleshooting, recovery, backup, and maintenance. Collaborate with the team to resolve hardware, network, and infrastructure issues, minimizing downtime.
Support efforts to build and optimize the internal network to ensure proper routing within the data center and connectivity to the cloud and the internal Unity network.
Contribute to and maintain documentation of processes, policies, and procedures.
Participate in planning discussions by gathering requirements, testing configurations, and providing feedback to drive design improvements.
Requirements
- Experience with Palo Alto firewalls, Linux servers, or Cumulus Linux switches (professional, academic, or lab experience considered).
- Fundamental understanding of IP routing concepts and policies across common network devices, including experience with static routing and exposure to dynamic routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, EIGRP).
- Basic Linux administration and host level networking skills and familiarity with Ansible for simple automation tasks.
- Understanding of core network architecture, design principles, and protocols (TCP/IP, VLANs, DHCP, DNS).
- Strong willingness to learn, attention to detail, and effective written and verbal communication skills.
- You might also have
- Exposure to OpenStack components.
- Familiarity with Ceph concepts.
- Coding/scripting skills (e.g., Python or Bash) and understanding of CI/CD workflows in a DevOps and collaborative environment.
- Experience or internships in a data center or lab environment.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Palo Alto PCCSA/PCCET, CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA).
