Purpose of the role

The Extranet Engineer

is responsible for

delivering

project

based

connectivity initiatives while providing 2nd line support for

day

to

day

extranet operations.

The role focuses on implementing and supporting externally facing network and security connectivity, working to agreed designs and standards within a regulated environment. The engineer will act as a key contributor to

extranet

related

projects, partner onboarding, and operational stability, escalating complex issues appropriately while

maintaining

strong control and service discipline.

Accountabilities

Provide 2nd line support for extranet and external connectivity services

Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve connectivity, routing,

firewall

, and certificate issues

Support partner onboarding and offboarding, following approved patterns and procedures

Troubleshoot

low

latency

connectivity and performance issues for

latency

sensitive

services

Assist with BGP routing troubleshooting, including route visibility and failover scenarios

Investigate incidents, provide

timely

updates, and contribute to root cause analysis (RCA)

Work closely with Network, Security, and Application teams to resolve

cross

domain

issues

Execute approved changes and maintenance activities

Maintain and follow runbooks, SOPs, and operational documentation

Participate in

on

call

or

shift

based

support (where applicable)

Automation, monitoring enhancements, capacity management, resiliency, business continuity management, front office specific

support

and stakeholder management

you'll

be part of the Specialized Infrastructure team. The Specialised Infrastructure team in Barclays is seeking a skilled Extranet Network Engineer with a strong background in designing and architecting network patterns in low latency and high frequency trading environments that encompass modern cybersecurity and

firewall

standards.

You will play a key role by collaborating and facing off with key Business stakeholders and the internal CSO teams on the design of the Network connectivity standards and patterns to ensure the infrastructure and connectivity that underpins the mission critical trading platform environments of the Bank are both fit for purpose and meet the Bank’s ever-evolving security standards. You will have a direct impact on

optimizing

our trading platforms, reducing project delivery slippage, and enhancing our competitive edge in the market.

To be successful as an Extranet Networking Engineer, you should have:

Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking, routing, and DNS

Working experience with BGP (basic peering, route advertisement, and troubleshooting)

Exposure to

low

latency

networking concepts, including:

Latency, packet loss, jitter awareness

and

Path

selection

and basic performance troubleshooting

Hands

on

experience with

firewall

technologies, including: Policy implementation and troubleshooting, NAT and access control rules,

Experience supporting VPN technologies (IPSec, SSL,

site

to

site), Understanding of TLS/SSL and certificate management, Operational experience on Linux/Unix platforms, A

bility to

analyze

logs, alerts, and basic packet captures,

Familiarity with incident and change management processes

Some other highly valued skills include:

Experience supporting external Client connectivity, Exchange Trading venue connectivity, multicast Market Data feeds.

Experience with CSO/CISO and third-party risk management

CCNP, CCDA, CISSP certifications

Experience with Network routing (BGP) and Precision time (PTP) protocols

Experience with scripting and Ansible automation tooling

Experience with Open-source based monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus and Telegraf

This role will be based in our Prague office.
